Earlier this week, LinkedIn in launched its latest feature: LinkedIn University Pages. This new section of the social media site targets prospective students and alumni who want to connect with colleges. University Pages allow users to see which alumni from a particular school are LinkedIn members and statistics on where alumni work and what they do.
In a blog post, LinkedIn’s director of product management writes, “I’m delighted to announce the launch of University Pages on LinkedIn – one cornerstone of our strategy to help students at every critical milestone from campus to fulfilling, successful careers.”
While this has potential to be a great tool for college-bound students, it also has potential to be a great resource for researchers and professionals in the higher education industry. The researchers here at Melior will definitely keep an eye on University Pages for insights on career and industry trends. For instance, we could look at the pages for UPenn, Temple, Drexel and Villanova and get a sense of the career choices graduates are making in the Philadelphia region.
